چکیده

TanDEM-X is a challenging radar mission. It consists of a synthetic aperture radar interferometer with two almost identical satellites flying in a closely controlled formation. With a typical separation between the satellites of 120 to 500 m a global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with 2 m relative height accuracy at 12 m posting is being generated. While the main mission phase for DEM data acquisition has been finished by mid-2014, the processing of the global TanDEM-X DEM will be concluded by mid-2016. Final DEMs for Australia, large parts of North America, South America, Africa and Siberia are already available for scientific and commercial applications. The results achieved so far are well within the expected performance for the global DEM. A 15-month science phase of the TanDEM-X mission started in October 2014 which offers the opportunity to generate DEMs with even higher accuracy for selected areas, and to explore and demonstrate the new scientific applications of this

The Global Tandem-x Dem: Production Status and First Validation Results

The TanDEM-X mission will derive a global digital elevation model (DEM) with satellite SAR interferometry. Two radar satellites (TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X) will map the Earth in a resolution and accuracy with an absolute height error of 10m and a relative height error of 2m for 90% of the data. In order to fulfill the height requirements in general two global coverages are acquired and processed....

Quality Assessment and Validation of Digital Surface Models Derived from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (srtm)

The first mission using space-borne single-pass-interferometry was launched in February this year – the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). The goal of this mission has been to survey the Earth’s surface and generating a homogeneous and dense elevation data set of the entire world. Antennas with two different wavelength were used. One of the hardware components was the German / Italian Syn...

Detection of Forest Clear-Cuts with Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and Tandem-X InSAR Data

The aim of this study was to determine whether forest clear-cuts during 2000–2011 could be detected as a decrease in surface height by combining Digital Surface Models (DSMs) from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and Tandem-X, and to evaluate the performance of this method using SRTM Xand C-band data as references representing the heights before logging. The study area was located in...

Interferometric DEM Reconstruction of Alpine Areas – Experiences with SRTM Data and Improved Strategies for Future Missions

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission SRTM produced the first global digital elevation model (DEM) data set of the world’s topography in the year 2000. The data set covers regions between ±60 degrees latitude with a resolution of 30 meters. The 90 % height accuracy in these regions is on the range of 6 meters, limited by the baseline length, the metrology and the instrument noise. In mountainous...

Srtm and Beyond: Current Situation and New Developments in Spaceborne Insar

SAR interferometry (InSAR) has become one of the most powerful tools in radar remote sensing. Generation of digital elevation models, measurement of glacier flows and mapping of earthquakes, volcanoes and subsidence are the most prominent applications of InSAR. For most of these applications continuous acquisition of SAR data from space over many years, like with the ERS-1/2 or Radarsat, is ind...
